Time…how much do we have? Where does it all go?
Time is something we all have the same amount of. We all have 24 hours in a day. The difference between all of us is how we use that time. How much time do we have? Where does all our time go? We all have a certain mindset about time, what we think about the time we have and how we think about using that time. This might stir up emotions. Some of you might think others have more time than you do because of the commitments you have and what you need to do each day. That might seem unfair. Let’s put aside our preconceived ideas about time aside while reading this blog. I want you to try this exercise to help.
Time mindset reset exercise. Imagine that each morning you wake up with $2400 that you need to spend, $1000 to spend for each hour of the day. If you don’t spend this money at the end of the day you will lose it. You wouldn’t want to lose this money it is valuable and could change the course of your life. Take a few moments and think about this. Look at the numbers: $2400 x 7 days a week = $16,800 each week. Yes that’s $16,800 x 52 weeks a year= $873,600 each year.
This is just an exercise but now look at it in hours. Look at the numbers again, 24 hours a day. Take out 8 hours for sleeping + 8 hours for working = 16 hours. Weekend hours 24 hours a day take out sleeping 8 hours day = 16 hours. Total hours for a week added up 24 x 7 = 168. Hours for sleeping 7 nights a week and working 5 days a week = 56 hours of sleep and 40 hours of work = 72 hours. How do you spend yours? Think about doing something you love for 1 hour a day that’s 7 hours. Maybe being with someone you love an extra hour a day again that’s 7. Next think about something you’ve always wanted to do but put off because you didn’t have time, another 7 hours a week. Remember if you don’t use the hours each day you lose the hours. We just used 3 hours a day as an example so 21 hours a week. Subtract the 21 hours from 72, that would leave 51 hours. That number seems like you might have more time left over that you thought. I know I have a lot going on and I still find myself wasting time. I still tell myself I can’t do anything else but when I put my situation into this exercise, I realize that I do have an adequate amount of left over time. We all have different situations some of us have more times left over each week and others have less time left over. I challenge you to take a few moments to rethink about your own time and how you could fit in something you love to do, time with someone you love and maybe something you’ve dreamed of but put off.
Taking care of yourself each week could be hard to fit into your day I totally understand. Start small take yoga and meditation for example. If you would set 20 minutes aside for yoga and meditation a day, would it take up too much time? Would the benefits of a regular practice outweigh the loss of time. Put it into the equation 20 minutes x 7 days = 2.33 hours a week. Now let’s calculate the benefits. Energy, better sleep, flexibility body and mind, better balance, memory, and feeling more positive…. The list can go on and the investment is minimal. Here is a link to an article about what 1 person did with 10 minutes of yoga a day. Inspiring.
